Memorial Day Weekend Events Around Charlotte & Beyond

It’s the official kick-off to summer and there’s plenty to do this weekend in and around the Queen City.

Many people break out the boat and head to Lake Norman or Lake Wylie for a weekend of fun on the water.

Live Music and Fireworks will entertain at the US National Whitewater Center. 

Families head to Carowinds just south of Charlotte to enjoy a day of thrill rides and the state’s largest water park. Note: Sunday and Monday are Carowinds Military Days – show a valid military I.D. to get in free.

Popular Birkdale Village in Huntersville will host a ceremony on Monday, May 29th, at 11 a.m. birkdale lead page

Mint Hill Madness runs all weekend with live music, carnival rides, and fireworks.

If you want to head out of town, nearby Winston-Salem plays host to the North Carolina Wine Festival May 27th. In less than 2 hours you can find yourself in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with so many quaint towns to explore; including Asheville, Boone and Blowing Rock.


Community Spotlight – The Patriot Gala

Ivester Jackson Christie’s International Real Estate was honored to sponsor Charlotte’s premier black tie Gala, The Patriot Gala, last weekend at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Patriot Charities, this annual event raises funds to support wounded military and their families in the Carolinas. Attendees enjoyed fine wine and food, along with exciting silent and live auctions.


Honored military speakers addressed the audience, attendees viewed a military tribute video, and Congressman Robert Pittenger led a salute to fallen soldiers.

Special guests included Dr. David Callaway; Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at CMC Charlotte, US Congressman Robert Pittenger, and members of the North Carolina National Guard.


During the event Patriot Charities also awarded four service dogs to four deserving veterans.
