We’re excited to once again support The Patriot Gala this year, coming up soon on November 5th.
Last year’s event was very patriotic as “it recognizes and values what our men and women give to our country with their selfless sacrifice and it ultimately inspires all in attendance to share some of themselves to support our military. It is an evening filled with laughter, tears and warmth.” (Patriot Military Family Foundation Website)
The highlight of the evening includes honored military speakers and guests and is a tribute to the men and women who have served from our great state of North Carolina.
This event includes a silent and live auction with everything from jewelry, wine and dine, travel, sporting events and more to bid on.
Last year four service dogs were presented to local veterans suffering from PTSD and this year four more will be awarded.

Growing up in Salisbury, North Carolina made for a great, old fashioned childhood. This was a town where everyone knew you, your parents, a sibling or some family member that seemed to connect everyone.
Teachers knew all of their students by name 20 years after graduation! Not much has changed over the years, in some respects. Salisbury still retains much of its small town roots. The town has grown quite a bit, however, over the years.
Many annual events are still trademark Salisbury entertainment. In the spring, there is the annual Spring Celebration at Hurley Park and in the fall there is the annual Autumn Jubilee and the Octobortour, where visitors can tour many of Salisbury’s most prominent and beautiful historic homes. The County Fair continues to bring out the masses for the week that it is in town.
Well known attractions dot the landscape as well. Dan Nicholas Park is arguably one of the best and most entertaining public parks around. This park boasts playgrounds, mini-golf, multipurpose fields, walking trails, paddle boats, a few amusement rides, a splash zone, a gem mining area, a reptile center and mini zoo, all in one place, with camping and picnic sites available.
Spencer, NC (north of Salisbury) is home to the NC Transportation Museum. Visitors come from all over to catch a ride on Thomas the Train as well as spend a day riding the Polar Express.
Salisbury is an extremely convenient small town. It is in between Charlotte and Winston Salem/Greensboro with only a 30 – 60 minute drive to any of them, providing quick access to two major airports, shopping, healthcare, NASCAR and many other attractions and activities along the way.
It is also home to 2 liberal arts colleges (Catawba College and Livingstone College). Food Lion and Cheerwine both have corporate headquarters located here.
Housing costs are low with a variety of housing options. There are several golf course neighborhoods, lakefront communities along High Rock Lake, historic homes along the downtown area and everything in between. Crescent Golf and Country Club is one of the newest clubs in town. This neighborhood boasts some beautiful, newer homes of varying price ranges. Be sure to check out our listing at 305 Hogans Valley Way. A stunner, at 5670 square feet, this home is perfect for the most discerning buyers.
Attention to detail is seen in every corner of every room. Call us for a private tour of this one of a kind home in the Crescent Golf and Country Club. Quiet elegance that is mere minutes away from all that Salisbury has to offer, in the shadows of the historic and lovely Catawba College campus.
When it comes to big renovations many homeowners want to invest in a new kitchen or updated bathroom which makes sense, buyers are looking for these spaces to be modernized, and they both top the list of home renovations that pay off, with a nice return on your investment.
But when it comes time to sell keep this in mind, if the roof is leaking or the plumbing is faulty, many buyers will have trouble moving beyond those issues.
Before focusing on granite countertops and steam showers, make sure the furnace and plumbing are in order. A new roof and windows will return 80 percent or more at resale, while siding replacement can recoup 90 percent of its cost.
Home Improvements Stand Out
Basic maintenance of a home is not the fun part, but it’s important to make sure it’s all in good order before spending the big bucks on big projects, homes with up-to-date maintenance items will stand out, compared to a home without these updates.
Projects That Pay Off
When people are buying a home, they usually focus on kitchens and baths, and it’s something they’ll splurge for.
In a hot housing market it’s an excellent investment, a kitchen can make or break a sale. Your kitchen renovation should earn around a 70 percent return on investment, depending on features and how much you spend.
A couple things to keep in mind, don’t over personalize the space or spend more on the remodeling project than your home value can support. Ideally you can spend between 6 and 10 percent of the total home value and get fair return.
An updated master bath with that spa look and feel hooks many buyers; they love the clean, stylish updated bathrooms with a large shower, his and her sinks or new tub. The bathroom remodel does add value to a home and can recoup nearly 60 percent.
Low on the List
Which projects should you skip or keep low on your list? Pools rarely return their cost, a lot of buyers see them as something they’ll have to maintain and home offices, while popular with many people working from home these days do not generate a big return.
