Agents in the Community – Melissa Turney

Melissa Turney and son, Spencer

Ivester Jackson agent Melissa Turney may spend her days helping clients find their dream homes, but for the past four years, her nights, weekends, and even early mornings have been spent with the W.A. Hough High School Band. Melissa has served as the Band Booster Vice President and President over the past four years. She has chaperoned countless trips, built props, served dozens of meals, organized social events, and even searched the football locker room looking for a generator. Melissa has gone above and beyond in her dedication to the kids, and the Hough Band program. Although many people often ask her how she makes time for all of it, she says it’s been worth every second because she has gotten so much in return for what she’s given the band.

“Over the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of having a front-row seat to some of the best performances I’ve ever seen. I’ve received a zillion smiles and unnecessary but greatly appreciated thank yous. I’ve been able to see all the hard work pay off in the applause of crowds and smiles on the kids’ faces. And, most importantly, I’ve had the privilege of watching the kids all grow into even more amazing young musicians and extraordinary humans. These kids have persevered through the challenge of Covid and have stayed strong & kept music alive at Hough and it’s been my honor to be a part of it.”

Melissa knows first-hand how important music and the arts are to the school and students.

“Music education, and all the arts programs, are crucial to the success of so many of our young people. Supporting those groups is something I always want to be a part of, even when my kids have left school and gone on to do other things. The arts are a place where everyone can feel included and supported, and often find the family they couldn’t find in other activities. It’s so important to so many students and has made a difference in countless young lives.”
